1. Choose your niche first
Decide what you will sell before you buy anything. Common starting points: custom logos on caps and T-shirts, school and corporate uniforms, boutique and ethnic-wear embroidery, patches and badges, or contract embroidery for local garment makers. Your niche decides the machine.
2. Pick the right first machine
Most new businesses start with one compact multi-function machine — a single head with 12 or 15 needles that can embroider caps, finished garments, bags and flat fabric. It keeps the investment manageable and handles mixed orders. If you already have bulk orders for fabric or panels, a multi-head machine earns more per shift.
3. Plan space and power
A compact machine fits in a small room or shop; multi-head machines need a dedicated floor with space around the frame for loading. Plan a stable power supply — a stabiliser or UPS protects electronics — and good lighting for operators.
4. Get design (digitising) capability
Machines stitch from digitised design files. You can learn digitising software, hire a digitiser, or outsource designs per order. Good digitising is the difference between clean embroidery and thread breaks.
5. Train operators
An operator needs to thread, hoop, load designs, manage colour sequences and do basic maintenance. Buy from a supplier that includes on-site training — Sinsim PRI trains your operators at installation.
6. Find your first customers
Start local: schools, gyms, restaurants, corporate offices, event organisers and boutiques all need embroidered products. List on Google Business Profile, IndiaMART and Instagram, and show samples of your work.
7. Price for profit
Price per piece based on stitch count, colours, thread, backing, machine time and operator cost — plus a margin. Track machine utilisation: idle hours are the biggest hidden cost.
8. Scale with a second machine or more heads
When your machine runs full shifts and orders keep coming, add capacity. Moving from one head to a multi-head machine multiplies output without multiplying operators.
